too much time on my hands

i am not sure if this is what the internet is for, or if this is a harbinger of the fall of civilization. either way, check out this guy's website dedicated to his naval lint.

(huh, the fact that he also has collections of his beard clippings seems to point to the fall of civilization bit...)

hell no / hell yes

miles has begun expressing his opinions. currently his opinions are mostly negative and are displayed by vigorous head shaking. when he combines this head shaking with his learned habit of crying with his mouth closed, it makes dinner time much for difficult for his father. (ah the good old days, when he would open his mouth to wail and i could just shovel in another spoon of some kind of baby-friendly puree. but alas they are no more)

and in further news, i voted today. yup, indiana is pioneering vote centers that are, wait for it, open longer, more accessible hours. hoosiers in my county can vote 10a-7p all this week at 4 locations around the county. IT IS AWESOME!!! it has worked really well in past elections and might prove to be a trend that we export round the state and beyond.

heck tick

things have been a little nutty round these parts. let me list out a few of the things that have been taking my attention:

over the span of about 3 weeks. miles figured out how to sit up, crawl, and stand. if he continues to progress at this rate he'll be figuring out our stock portfolio as well as anyone else by valentine's day. (that might not be a bad idea, now that i think about it...)

my parents moved here from oregon. they decided they didn't want to be the far-away grandparents. so, right before the bottom fell out of the mortgage market they packed everything, sold their house, and moved across the country. they stayed with us for a week and some and found a cute place in the next town over. so, i guess they are now buckeyes. retired, relaxed, cracker barrel loving buckeyes.

we had homecoming at the college where i work. not unusual. what made it unusual this year was we threw in a day of celebration for the nearly 5 million dollar endowment the college received from a philanthropic organization my office works with. that means lots of good things for the future, but for a day and a half, it meant lots of meals, lots of conversations, lots of being charming. AND it meant weeks and weeks of planning so it all went off without a hitch--which it did! (thank god)

oh yeah, for this celebration i elicited photos and essays from alums and complied those into a self-published book. so, i guess i am a published book editor.

while it's not news the tail-end of hurricane ike rolled through here, it is news that we are still tyring to get all the felled trees chainsawed and cleaned up.

and that's about it for my whining rant and self-justification for not posting more recently. BUT, there are newish pictures of hurricanes ike and miles at my flickr page.
